【Vol.02 HGUC 1/144 Hi-Nu Gundam】 Review

1. Introduction

In this review, I'm taking a look at the HGUC 1/144 Hi-Nu Gundam — Amuro Ray's personal unit from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack – Beltorchika's Children."
This kit stands out as one of the more well-crafted entries in the HGUC lineup, striking a solid balance between its unique color scheme, proportions, and articulation. The funnels and backpack add a real sense of presence, and even straight out of the box it looks great on display. If you've been curious about the Hi-Nu Gundam or thinking about picking it up, I hope this review helps!

4. Building Process

Difficulty ★★☆☆☆
Build Time Approximately 120 minutes.
※ Notes ※ The silver parts tend to have noticeable mold seams, so sanding them down beforehand will noticeably improve the overall finish.

5. Out-of-Box Appearance

The understated color scheme built around grey and blue gives the kit a clean, composed look straight out of the box. The simple yet refined palette does a good job of highlighting the panel lines and overall silhouette across each part of the kit.

Design & Proportions The retro silhouette calls back to classic Gunpla, paired nicely with the blue and grey color scheme characteristic of this variant. The overall balance is well considered, resulting in a composed and grounded look.
Articulation Range Joint movement at the elbows and knees is somewhat limited, which does restrict the range of action poses available. That said, using a display stand opens up some nice floating display options.
Color Separation Four molded colors are used throughout the kit, giving it a solid level of color accuracy right out of the box. Color blocking across the shield, legs, and other parts is clearly defined.

6. Good & More

【🙆‍♀️ Good 🙆‍♂️
・ Sharp, well-balanced proportions.
・ Great color separation right out of the box — no painting needed to feel satisfied.
・ Easy to pose and comes with a solid range of weapons and accessories.
【💁‍♀️ More 💁‍♂️】
・ Gate marks on some parts are fairly noticeable.
・ The backpack verniers can come loose relatively easily.
・ Only one funnel on each side is poseable.

8. Conclusion

That wraps up my review of the HGUC 1/144 Hi-Nu Gundam. This kit sits among the stronger offerings in the HGUC lineup, with proportions, color separation, and gimmicks all hitting a high standard. The build itself is relatively straightforward, yet the sense of satisfaction once it’s complete is genuinely high — it captures the appeal of the Hi-Nu Gundam really well.
